Our UK programme of events:

"Trains, Trains, Trains" at Leeds Industrial Museum.

Every year since 2015 (with the exception of 2020, the Friends of Sierra Leone National Railway Museum has had a pop-up museum at Leeds Industrial Museum, at Armley Mills, where we celebrate the shared railway heritage (six of our surviving locomotives were built in Leeds) between Leeds and Sierra Leone. With displays, food, music, talks and hands-on activities, Leeds Industrial Museum at Armley Mills partners with the Friends of SLNRM and local West African community groups to tell the story of how railway locomotives built in Leeds during and after WW1 changed West Africa forever.

Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway Annual Gala

The Sierra Leone National Railway Museum is twinned with the Welshpool & Light Railway in mid-Wales, who purchased SLR Hunslet 2-6-2T locomotive No 85 and two Independence Coaches in 1975, when the SLR was being phased out.  We now have a regular stand at the W&LLR's annual gala, which takes place during the first weekend in September every year.

We're keen to establish more fundraising and profile-raising events in the UK. If you've an idea for us, get in touch!

Look out for news of future events!
